ITECH 17-18

The Bending-Active Demonstrator 2017–18 is a collaborative project by ICD, ITKE, and ITFT at the University of Stuttgart, involving ITECH master students. It explores large-span structures made from carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) strips, shaped through elastic bending. Five different strip morphologies, each spanning 12–20 meters, were combined into two self-equilibrated assemblies covering 7.7 × 5.4 meters and reaching 5 meters in height. A textile hybrid cantilevered module, form-found using finite element models, was integrated into the larger assembly. This module informed the form-finding of the overall structure, creating varied spatial enclosures and architectural experiences.
